Goal Setting and Planning With a Little Equine Attitude!

At this time of year people go crazy for planning…

But I never really feel like it. My plans are either in place before Christmas or put in place after, but the last thing I feel like doing when I’m distracted by family and social events is to plan my work! I think I have a talent for switching off :) Here's what I do...

Before you can plan, you need to know what you’re aiming for. Establishing your goals is an essential step to help keep your plans on track and ensure that all your hard work brings you closer to achieving them.

When I’m thinking about my goals I find that having fewer is better. As a business owner, it’s far too easy to become overwhelmed, as there’s always a giant, expanding to-do list. I try to set around 3 main goals for the year and 3 main goals for each month.

When goal setting I think listening to your instinct is really important. Without wanting to sound too woo woo - it is your internal guidance, and it’s usually right. You know what you want to do.

Get a planner and write it out.

Then you need a plan. I love a good plan, but it’s best kept simple. In my experience, if you create a plan with too much detail, you end up managing the plan and not actually getting on with anything. Keep it simple and as we horsey folk often say - “just get on with it!”

I wish you all the best for 2018 :)
